# Symponia > An AI companion for shadow work. Symponia names your shadow through a projective method built on seven animals, then goes deeper than a journalling prompt can. Symponia is an iOS app for inner work, grounded in Jungian depth psychology. It is not therapy, does not claim to be, and says so on the page. The method: you name six animals that feel like you, and a seventh that repels you. The seventh is treated as the shadow, on the principle that what a person finds unbearable in others is very often the trait they exiled in themselves. Symponia reads all seven together as a field, each for its gift, its shadow, and the path between them. Nothing is assigned. There is no personality type at the end, and it will never tell you your "spirit animal". ## What Symponia does - Names your shadow via the seven-animal projective method, in about four minutes. - Attuning questions before the animals: what brings you here, the trait that most irritates you in others, the story you tell about yourself. - Three modes: meet your archetypes, talk through your day, or just talk with no structure. - Replies written for what you actually wrote, rather than a fixed prompt served to every user. - Optional long-term memory, so a pattern becomes visible across months. - Works in nine languages, understanding and replying in the language you wrote in. Not machine translation bolted on: every screen, notification and the voice itself are written to read as though composed in that language. - Mood check-ins: a 1 to 5 rating before and after a reflection, drawn over a week to show whether the practice is helping. This deliberately replaces a streak: a streak measures obedience, this measures whether the thing works. ## How it differs from other shadow work apps Most shadow work apps are prompt journals: they hand you the same list of questions as everyone else, leave you alone with a blank page, and forget you between sessions. They also require you to already know what your shadow is. Symponia's difference is the mechanic. The seventh animal surfaces the shadow rather than asking you to find it, and every reply responds to what you actually said. ## Privacy Memory is off by default. With memory off, nothing is stored on Symponia's servers. Users can delete stored memory at any time. Nothing written in Symponia trains any AI model. ## Honest limits Symponia is not therapy and not a substitute for it. It hears only one side, the user's, and cannot see a person's life from the outside. Not every feeling is a wound. Anyone in crisis should contact a qualified professional or their local emergency services. ## Pricing Free to download, with a 7-day free trial. After the trial, Symponia Monthly is £19.99 in the UK; Apple sets the price for each country and it varies. The subscription is unlimited reflection: there is nothing to count and no balance to ration. A published fair-use ceiling of 250 messages a week and 60 in any 5-hour period protects the service from automated abuse; most people never reach it. Cancel any time in Apple ID settings. ## Languages English, Swedish, Italian, Russian, Portuguese (Brazilian), French, German, Spanish, Danish. ## Who built it Symponia was founded by Dr. Alessandro Biletta, an osteopath and student of depth psychology, whose archetype method is at the centre of the app, and co-founded by Yekta Dastranj, who shaped the product. Carl Jung called this the shadow. It does not disappear when buried; it starts making decisions from underground. Shadow work is the practice of bringing it back into view. **How do you find your shadow?** The shortcut is your own revulsion. The trait you find unbearable in other people is very often the one you exiled in yourself. Symponia uses this directly through the seventh animal. **Is Symponia therapy?** No, and it does not claim to be. **Is it a personality test?** No. It is a projective method, closer in spirit to an inkblot than to a quiz. Nothing is assigned and there is no type at the end.
